TAConnect participated in a Citizens Townhall Meeting on Primary Health Care in Gombe State, organized by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) under the theme: “Strengthening Primary Healthcare Services in Gombe State Through Citizens Engagement and Ownership.”
The engagement brought together government officials, development partners, traditional leaders, civil society, and community stakeholders to review progress in Primary Health Care (PHC) delivery in the state, identify persistent gaps, and strengthen collective ownership of health system improvements.
During the town hall, stakeholders reflected on Gombe State’s ongoing reforms in PHC strengthening, including facility revitalization, improvements in health workforce deployment, expanded immunization coverage, increased health financing, and enhanced community engagement mechanisms. Participants also emphasized the importance of addressing remaining challenges, such as health worker attendance, service delivery gaps in hard-to-reach communities, and strengthening emergency referral systems.
Citizens and partners also provided feedback on the need to reduce reporting burdens on frontline health workers and improve responsiveness in PHC service delivery, while acknowledging the state’s progress and sustained investment in the health sector.
TAConnect’s participation aligns with its ongoing work in Gombe State, where the organization is supporting the “Accelerating Expanded Adoption of MNCHN Innovations and Health Reform” project, implemented in collaboration with Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and supported by the Gates Foundation.
