Tracking Progress: TAConnect Reinforces MNH Care in Borno Facilities

From 2nd to 4th February 2026, a joint team from TAConnect visited Borno State to monitor the implementation of the Accelerating the Expanded Adoption of RMNCH Innovation program. The visit focused on resolving commodity bottlenecks, assessing service delivery at the facility level, mentoring healthcare workers, and enhancing coordination among key stakeholders.

During the visit, the SPHCB in collaboration with the TAConnect team, conducted on-site assessments and mentorship on PPH management  at seven primary healthcare facilities.,  To address the challenges observed, the team recommended the deployment of job aids on PPH across facilities, increased utilization of HSC to address the challenge of availability of quality-assured oxytocin, structured and regular mentorship for supported facilities to facilitate skills retention,  mop-up onsite training sessions for newly recruited skilled birth attendants, and integration of program data into state M&E review mechanisms. The visit provided an opportunity to collectively drive discussions with the Borno State Primary Healthcare Board, the Drugs and Medical Consumables Management Agency, and other critical stakeholders to facilitate improved coordination and a sustainable approach to quality MNH service delivery.

The visit successfully restored program momentum, reinforced stakeholder engagement, and established clear, actionable steps to ensure that mothers and newborns across Borno State continue to receive lifesaving care of the highest quality.
