Kaduna State Assesses 187 Health Facilities Ahead of TEAM OB/NEO Implementation

Before a major health intervention begins, understanding what exists on the ground is critical. In Kaduna State, this principle is shaping preparations for the implementation of the Training for Emergency Action, Management and Workflows in Midwifery, Obstetrics and Neonatal Care (TEAM OB/NEO) programme, with the state taking a closer look at the readiness of its health facilities.

In collaboration with TAConnect, the Kaduna State Ministry of Health (SMoH) and Primary Health Care Board (KSPHCB) conducted a five-day Facility Readiness Assessment (FRA) across 187 primary and secondary health facilities in 19 Local Government Areas.

The assessment provided a comprehensive picture of the facilities’ preparedness for the programme, examining key areas including the availability and functionality of essential equipment, maternal and newborn health (MNH) commodities, infrastructure, and the strength and availability of human resources for health.

Beyond identifying gaps, the exercise established an important baseline for TEAM OB/NEO implementation. The findings will help the state and its partners better understand facility-level needs, prioritise interventions, and make informed decisions as implementation gets underway.

By grounding programme planning in evidence from the facilities where care is delivered, Kaduna State and TAConnect are laying the foundation for a more targeted and responsive approach to improving MNH outcomes
