Technical Advice Connect (TAConnect) provided technical assistance to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMoH&SW) during the Review, Finalization, and Validation Workshop for the National Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) Multiproduct Introduction Plan (MPIP). Convened by the Department of Family Health, the four-day workshop held from 23–26 February 2026 at Bon Octagon Hotel, Abuja, brought together representatives from Edo, Gombe, Kano, Kogi, and Ondo States, alongside key government agencies and implementing partners committed to strengthening maternal and newborn health outcomes in Nigeria.
In his welcome remarks, the head of safe Motherhood Branch, Dr. Saidu Diyo, acknowledged the presence and contributions of participating states and partners, highlighting the workshop’s role in strengthening coordination around MNH commodities. Stakeholders, including the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), National Product Supply Chain Management Programme (NPCMP), Presidential Initiative for Unlocking Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), Jhpiego, Society for Family Health (SFH), National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), FIELD, LAFIYA, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Foundation (PSNF), reaffirmed their support for government-led MNH priorities.

The workshop’s objective was to finalize and validate the draft MNH Multiproduct Implementation Plan (MPIP), ensuring alignment with priority commodities, strategic pillars, and the national implementation framework. Dr. Diyo emphasized the importance of transitioning from fragmented, partner-led MNH interventions to a coordinated, system-driven national framework that ensures equitable access to life-saving MNH commodities.
Participants worked in technical groups to review key sections of the MPIP, covering product introduction strategies, system readiness, enabling environments, financing and sustainability, and private sector engagement. These sessions allowed partners, including TAConnect, to provide technical input aimed at strengthening implementation pathways for MNH commodity introduction and scale-up.
The finalized MPIP is expected to improve coordination, streamline tracking of MNH interventions, attract investment, and support efforts to reduce maternal and newborn mortality across Nigeria. TAConnect’s engagement highlights its proactive role in shaping practical solutions for the effective delivery of maternal and newborn health services.
