The first quarter of 2024 set a strong foundation for the year, reflecting TAConnect’s continued commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and improving maternal and child health outcomes across Nigeria.
A major highlight was our collaboration with the Kano State Primary Health Care Board on the Pfizer Foundation–funded Rotavirus Vaccine Initiative. Through a data-driven approach and targeted community engagement across nine LGAs, we achieved consistent increases in vaccine uptake among children under one year. Our facilitated outreach efforts significantly reduced missed opportunities for vaccination, reaching and retaining approximately 15% of the annual target of previously missed children aged 12–23 months through completion of their third dose. Notably, outreach activities contributed to over 50% uptake and retention among children aged 0–11 months and an impressive 90% uptake and retention among older missed children—demonstrating the effectiveness of focused, community-based strategies.
At the national level, we advanced policy reform through our partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health to finalize the National Safe Motherhood Strategic Framework and the Nigeria Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (NiEPMM) document. These milestones are critical to closing policy gaps and accelerating the implementation of safe motherhood interventions nationwide.
Globally, TAConnect participated in the Global Catalyzer Conference on Scaling Up Group Antenatal Care in Nairobi, contributing Nigeria’s experience to global efforts aimed at ensuring universal access to quality maternal healthcare. We also commemorated International Women’s Day under the theme “Inspire Inclusion,” reaffirming our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusive leadership.
As we move forward, we remain grateful to our partners, funders, and dedicated team members whose collaboration continues to drive measurable impact in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.
