TAConnect has been nominated as a key member of the newly formed Emergency Maternal and Child Mortality Reduction Sub-Committee in Yobe State. This is following the state’s declaration of a State of Emergency on Maternal and Child Mortality. The announcement was made during the Joint Steering and Technical Working Committees Interactive Meeting on Maternal, Perinatal, and Child Death Surveillance and Response (MPCDSR) and the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiatives (MAMII), held on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
The meeting, chaired by the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammed Lawan Gana, brought together Executives Secretaries, Directors, and Program Officers from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), alongside representatives from the Ministries of Finance, Budget and Planning, the National Population Commission (NPOPC), and development partners including UNFPA, WHO, UNICEF, CHAI, and TAConnect.

In response to alarming findings from the MPCDSR presentation for January to March, Yobe State declared the state of emergency and mandated this sub-committee to drive immediate, coordinated, and evidence-based action.
TAConnect is fully committed to working collaboratively with the Yobe State Ministry of Health and Human Services to co-design and implement context-appropriate, high-impact interventions aimed at drastically reducing maternal and newborn mortality. This aligns with the broader priorities of the Government of Nigeria and Yobe State under the RMNCAH+N framework and the MAMI and SWAp initiatives.
