TAConnect, in collaboration with key partners including JHPIEGO, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization (WHO), supported the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in reviewing and finalizing the Life-Saving Skills (LSS) and Expanded Life-Saving Skills training manuals and slides. The five-day stakeholders’ meeting, held in Kano State, brought together a diverse group of experts and implementing partners to enhance the quality of training for healthcare workers in Nigeria.
The meeting convened stakeholders from academia and professional bodies, including the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) and the Paediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN), as well as representatives from other health-focused organizations. The primary objective was to ensure that the national LSS series is comprehensive, up-to-date, and tailored to equip nurses, midwives, and doctors with essential, evidence-based life-saving skills.

With maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality remaining significant public health concerns in Nigeria, the updated training materials will empower healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills required to deliver high-quality care. By strengthening the capacity of frontline health workers, this initiative is expected to make a critical impact in reducing preventable maternal and neonatal deaths across the country.
The newly updated training materials are expected to be rolled out nationwide in the coming months, bringing standardized, high-quality emergency care practices to healthcare facilities across the country.
